Green Clouds

A tree. A green cloud supported on brown pillars. When a strong wind passes by, it rains in the form of leaves. Green clouds provide shade just like their grey and white counterparts do, with the added benefit that they do not move, except the occasional shaking and rumbling.

Visit a forest like the Amazon. The green clouds there turn dense and merge into one another. All the sunlight is absorbed, nothing reaches the ground. The darkness is complete. And just like with the traditional clouds, this is both ominous and cool.

What does it take to write good. Write in a way that is interesting and engaging to the reader. And what does it take to write like that naturally, to be a storyteller, where the words aren’t contrived but perfectly express whatever one is currently thinking.

For that matter, everyone knows, no matter in which field, that to be effective, to be a pro, one needs to learn the tricks of the trade, learn the ropes, get insights. Although we desire insights, that doesn’t mean they automatically come to us.

We routinely come across situations where a solution to a problem looks simple in hindsight, but the problem can be intractable and frustrating while solving for the first time. Once the solution is known, we can use thinking to traverse the steps in it from start to finish. But when the solution is unknown, often thinking gets stuck and it doesn’t know how to proceed. This is where inspiration comes in and breaks the deadlock.

Beliefs as the foundation of the mind Part 2: Thinking

The thing that the mind does, all the time. Thinking does not completely stop even during sleep, as is evident by the existence of dreams.

Thinking is execution because it involves the mind going from one thought to another, one step after another, using all the mental tools at its disposal. These tools can be logic, reason, facts, emotions, ideas, whatever is available. Individually, each step is simple to understand, if one knows the specific tool used to perform the step. But a complete thought, involving tens of steps can be something very significant and substantial.

Before getting into the long discussion on the nature of belief, its important to clear the air of possible negative connotations that the word may possess. Belief sometimes is used to describe an

  • irrational stand, for example, that the earth was created 6000 years ago
  • a dogmatic thought
  • an idea to which logic, emotion, understanding nothing can be applied, which should just be accepted at face value
